February might be the shortest month, but it's one of the most vibrant across the Portland metro area and Yamhill County. From celebrating the Year of the Horse to savoring grilled cheese for a good cause, here's what's happening this month.

When: All month long

What: The 10th annual grilled cheese fundraiser supporting local food banks

For the tenth year, Yamhill County embraces its reputation as Oregon's cheesiest county with The Melt Down. More than 50 participating restaurants create specialty grilled cheese sandwiches (typically $8–$15), donating $2 from each sale to Yamhill Community Action Partnership's food bank programs. Since 2017, the event has raised nearly $200,000 through over 80,800 sandwiches sold, proof that good food and community spirit go hand in hand.

February Weather Tips

February in Portland means rain with highs around 50°F and lows in the high 30s. But locals know the secret: watch for "February Fakeout", those unexpected sunny days that bring everyone outdoors before winter inevitably returns.

The key is embracing the season. Rainy hikes to Columbia Gorge waterfalls are spectacular this time of year, Mt. Hood offers prime skiing and snowshoeing conditions, and Portland's cozy coffee shops and restaurants provide warm refuges. February also brings the best hotel deals of the year, making it ideal for exploring the city's dining and culture without summer crowds.

Whether you're eating grilled cheese for charity in Yamhill County, celebrating Lunar New Year in Portland's Chinatown, or wandering through illuminated art installations at The Portland Art Museum, February 2026 offers countless ways to connect with community and culture across the region.
