The Community Corner: October 2026 Happenings from Yamhill County to Portland, Oregon
October in the Willamette Valley is the month that makes you want to slow down experience the season. The light goes golden, the leaves are turning bright colors, harvest is in full swing in the vineyards, and the whole region takes on that particular autumn energy that's hard to find anywhere else. Here's what we're looking forward to this month.
Yamhill County Highlights
Harvest Season Open Houses — All Month, Yamhill County

October is the heart of harvest season, and the valley's wineries celebrate accordingly.
Throughout the month, estates across Yamhill County open their doors for harvest tastings, vineyard walks, and wine club events. The Willamette Valley Visitors Association tracks the full running calendar: wineries in Newberg, Dundee, Dayton, Carlton, and McMinnville all have something going on most weekends. This is the time of year when the vines are changing color, the crush pads are busy, and pours of just-finished juice are available at select estates.
Grab your people, pick a direction, and spend a Saturday on the back roads. You won't regret it. Full event calendar at willamettevalley.org.

This one is Portland being very, very Portland, and we mean that as a compliment.
The Portland Fermentation Festival (lovingly known as Stinkfest) returns October 22 to the Ecotrust building in the Pearl District for an evening of free kimchi, kombucha, miso, natto, cheese, hard cider, and just about every other living, fizzy, funky food and drink you can think of. Dozens of local professional and amateur fermenters bring their creations to share, no sales, just tasting. There's a Bacterial Petting Zoo, fermentation demos, a starter culture swap, and the kind of enthusiastic crowd that only a niche food festival can produce.
This is a non-commercial event, meaning once you're in, everything is free to sample. Tickets at portlandfermentationfestival.com.

October Weather: The Golden Window
October in the Willamette Valley is one of the most beautiful months of the year. The vines are turning gold and burgundy, the mornings have a real chill to them, and the afternoons are often gloriously clear and warm. Rain usually holds off through most of the month, giving you plenty of dry weekends to get out into the valley. Keep a jacket in the car for the evenings, it goes from warm to cold fast once the sun drops. But get outside. This is Oregon doing its best work.
Ready to Call This Home?

From Highland games in McMinnville to harvest weekends in the vineyard, October is a month that makes this corner of Oregon feel like the exact right place to be.
If you're thinking about planting your own roots here, whether that's a home near downtown McMinnville, a property with valley views, or something close to all the good things Newberg has going on, we'd love to talk. We know these communities the way only people who actually live here do.
